Traditionally, higher education institutions have been criticized for their seeming unwillingness to work together. To combat such views, the University Innovation Alliance (UIA) was established with the goal of getting universities to come together, share ideas, and help improve college access.
While met with skepticism during its launch five years ago, the UIA has had some significant success. By reimagining and discussing how campuses can be improved with better data, increased information-sharing, and the implementation of new technology, UIA schools are expected to see an additional 94,000 graduates by 2025.
The UIA is made up of 11 higher education institutions: Arizona State, Georgia State, Iowa State, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oregon State, Purdue universities, the University of California, Riverside, the University of Central Florida, the University of Kansas, and the University of Texas at Austin.
Together, these schools discuss how to recognize struggling students and how to redefine the connection between higher education, career services, and employers. Other areas of interest include the exploration of chatbot technology on campuses and how to make education more accessible for adult learners.
